Safari – going wild!

Tuesday Apple announced their new Safari version (4 Beta), and boy what a version. I must admit I never was much fan of Safari earlier, but after testing it out a bit and seeing with my own eyes how much faster it is to render certain things like for instance Javascript, then I have to say I am impressed. Now, if we take a look at the numbers for HTML rendering, we’ll see the following (taken from Apple.com)
- Safari 4 Beta (1.06s)
- Chrome 1.0 (1.38s)
- Firefox 3.0 (3.11s)
- Firefox 3.1 Beta 2 (3.16s)
- IE 7 (3.25s)
- IE 8 Beta (4.71s)
Now, not only does Safari beat the other browsers hands down, but there are also some other figures here that are rather interresting. If you look at both the later version of Firefox and IE, they both perform worse than previous versions did. Sure, they are both in beta stage, though here the developers really have something to work on. If we then move on to Javascript rendering we get these figures:
- Safari 4 Beta (0.14s)
- Chrome 1.0 (0.20s)
- Firefox 3.0 (0.76s)
- Firefox 3.1 Beta 2 (1.04s)
- IE 7 (1.81s)
- IE 8 Beta (0.73s)
Again, Safari beats the other browsers; Microsoft managed to get things running smoother, quite a bit as well – while yet again, the Mozilla guys need to start optimizing. Download your own copy today, and test it yourself.
